Summary:

The “flesh” is a mindset that is contrary to the Word of God. It will keep you from obtaining His blessings. If you are not in the Word, you are not in the Spirit. The way to keep from walking
in the flesh, or an unrenewed mindset, is to walk in the Spirit.

  1. The “flesh” is the unrenewed, carnal mindset.
    1. Although the flesh includes the physical body, it is also a “central control system;” it is a way of thinking that tells your body what to
      do.
      1. The unseen flesh tells the physical flesh what to do.
    2. Don’t use the righteousness of God as an excuse to take advantage of fleshly or selfish opportunities (Galatians 5:13-16).

  2. The blessings of God are located in spiritual places; therefore, we must walk in the Spirit to tap into them (Ephesians 1:3).
    1. The blessing is “God’s supernatural ability on your natural ability;” it is the root to the fruit.
    2. Jesus has already blessed you.
      1. Declaring that you are blessed defeats the carnal mindset.
    3. The “heavenly places” where the blessings are located are spiritual places.
      1. All of your blessings are located in the Spirit.
      2. You must walk in the Spirit to see supernatural results.
    4. Jesus’ words are spirit and life (John 6:63).
      1. The spirit of God quickens, or gives life to, the things you desire from God.
      2. Jesus’ words are the only things identified as spiritual.
      3. If you are not in His Word, you are not in the Spirit.
        1. You will not be able to walk in the Spirit if you don’t spend time reading, studying and acting on the Word of God.
      4. You can’t be spiritual without the Word of God; anything called “spiritual” that is not based on the Word of God is “spooky.”
    5. Walking in the Spirit = power, blessings and life; walking in the flesh = no profit, a curse and death.
    6. Walking in the Spirit means that you first see what you believe, rather than believing what you see.
    7. God’s operating in your life comes from your walking in the Spirit.

  3. Walking in the flesh opens you up to the curse, or an empowerment to fail (Jeremiah 17:5).
    1. The curse and the flesh go hand in hand; the flesh opens the door for Satan.
    2. Ingratitude opens you up to the curse (Deuteronomy 30:19-20).
      1. There is no honor in comparing yourself to others; there is no promotion in murmuring and complaining.

  4. You are what you think you are; you can have what you think you can have (Proverbs 23:7).
    1. You are in a battle of words that are competing for residence in your mind.
    2. Everything starts in your mind.
    3. Don’t accept the Devil’s suggestions; they are his most powerful weapons.
    4. You’ll never conquer anything until you conquer your thinking.
      1. You are spiritual or fleshy depending on your thought life.
      2. Walking in the flesh is a way of thinking; it is seeing yourself from man’s point of view rather than from God’s point of view.
      3. Fleshly thinking is a mindset that goes against the righteousness of God, the Word of God and the faith of God.
    5. Strongholds exist in the mind; a stronghold is “a house made of thoughts.”
      1. Don’t try to use the flesh to pull down strongholds; you can’t fight thoughts with thoughts (2 Corinthians 10:1-6).
      2. Fight fleshy thoughts by speaking the Word of God (thoughts aren’t spiritual, but the Word of God is).
