Summary:

The Holy Spirit is not an emotion. He is the third Person of the Godhead. He infuses each believer with the power necessary to live a successful Christian life. Power, which is the
ability to get results, is available to every Christian by way of the
Holy Spirit, Who helps believers to operate in God’s capacity on the
earth.

  1. The Holy Spirit is the believer’s key to power.
    1. Power is the “ability to get results.”
    2. The day you became born again, the Holy Spirit was poured into your heart, planting a power seed” within you (Romans 5:5).
    3. When the Holy Spirit comes on you, you have power, ability, efficiency and might.
      1. With this power, you become the evidence of the Word and can demonstrate God’s power to others (Acts 1:8).
    4. You have an endowment that makes you a partaker of God’s power.
      1. Don’t be deceived into thinking that your ability can outdo the Holy Spirit’s.
    5. When Jesus was baptized, the Holy Spirit descended on Him. Only then was He able to get results in His ministry (Luke 3:21-22; 4:14-15).
    6. The Holy Spirit helps you to operate in God’s capacity.
      1. He has come to make you a living testimony of God’s glory and power.

  2. The Holy Spirit empowers believers to live the Word.
    1. Peter denied Jesus three times, but after the Holy Spirit came on him, he boldly preached about Jesus—even when he was told not to (Acts
      4:10,19-20).
    2. The Holy Spirit is not optional to living a fruitful Christian life.

  3. The Holy Spirit works in a believer’s life in three stages (Ezekiel 37:1-10).
    1. Bone returning to bone is the first stage.
      1. Ezekiel witnessed dry bones coming together.
      2. The Holy Spirit draws men to repentance, gathering them to God.
    2. The second stage involves flesh and sinews coming together and rejoining the bone.
      1. When Ezekiel spoke to the bones, they were again covered with flesh and sinews.
      2. You reconnect to God.
      3. Form is given to what was previously scattered.
    3. The third stage is the breath of life and power.
      1. The form still needs the breath of the Holy Spirit to have power or ability.
      2. Many Christians have the form of God, but no power.

  4. There are hindrances to the Holy Spirit’s operation.
    1. Grieving, or quenching, the Holy Spirit will stop Him from moving in your life.
      1. Don’t quench, or put out, the Holy Spirit (1 Thessalonians 5:19, AMP).
      2. You can grieve, or suppress, the Holy Spirit by holding on to bitterness, unforgiveness, wrath, anger and evil speaking; in other words, by
refusing to walk in the love of God (Ephesians 4:30-33).
    2. Refusing to walk in love will block the Holy Spirit.
      1. Be kind to others, even when they aren’t kind to you.
      2. God has forgiven you of a trillion-dollar debt, so how can you not forgive a two-cent debt?
    3. Sin and wrong associations will hinder the work of the Holy Spirit in your life.
      1. Witness and minister to the unsaved, but don’t become their companions by “hanging out” with them.
        1. A companion of fools will be a fool (Proverbs 13:20).
      2. Those who are friends with the world are enemies of God; you can’t be a companion of the world and expect to commune with the Holy Spirit (James
        4:4).
