Summary:

Serving God must be done in singleness of motive. God knows our motives, and as Believers, we must examine our motives to ensure we are motivated by

love only. God is motivated by love and Jesus demonstrated His great
love by laying His life down for us. When we love God, we will be
motivated by love and serve others as an expression of our love toward
Him.

  1. Your motive for serving must be single (Colossians 3:22-24).
    1. Motive is the reason or fear that prompts an individual to act or begin movement.
    2. It is the intent or the reason why you do what you do.
    3. God knows your motives.
      1. Motives are the reason why so many Believers lack what they ask for.
        1. As Believers, we must always examine our motives.
        2. We should make God's motives, our motives.

  2. God's motive is love.
    1. God loved the world so much that He gave His only begotten Son as a demonstration of His love (John 3:16).
      1. We have to perceive (understand or come to know) that love (1 John 3:16).
        1. God sent His Son so we could perceive His love.
    2. It will be easy to love God when you know He loves you.
      1. It will be hard to love God if you have not perceived (understand or come to know) His love for you.
    3. We should be followers of God and His example of love
      (Ephesians 5:1-3).
      1. Avoiding filthiness and all ungodliness.

  3. Great love is defined by the laying down of one's life.
    1. Jesus laid down His life for us (John 15:12-14).
      1. He was motivated by love.
    2. Even when He was betrayed, Jesus loved until the end.
      1. He demonstrated that love by washing the disciples' feet (John 13:1-10).
    3. A woman was healed by an opportunity to serve Jesus; because she loved Him, she was able to lay her life down and serve Him
      (Luke 7:36-47).

  4. Love is our biggest demonstration as Christians.
    1. As Christians, we should make a quality decision to love one another.
      1. The demonstration of the love of God should be more than a theory in our lives.
    2. The love of God is patient, kind and endures long.
    3. Words alone cannot express love.
      1. Love has action or a demonstration.
        1. Love is an action word.
        2. It involves sacrifice.
    4. Jesus' dying for us was a demonstration of His love.
      1. Because He laid down His life for us, we should be willing to lay down our lives and serve each other.

  5. The motive in loving and submitting to one another is the love of God (Ephesians 5:21, 25, 26, 33).
    1. Your love walk should be an expression of your love toward God.
    2. We should serve one another in love.
      1. In an effort to serve His disciples, Jesus washed their feet (John 13:13, 14-16).
    3. Your motive for serving should be because you love God
      (Ephesians 6:5, 6).
      1. Serving will not be difficult when love is the motive.
        1. It will be harder to serve if love is not the motive.
        2. Do not use your liberty as a reason to be selfish (Galatians 5:13).
