Summary:

Everything we need in this life, we possess within our spirits. However, if we do not understand the functionality of our make-up—spirit, soul, and body—we will not understand how to tap into the powerful resources located within our spirits.

  1. As human beings, we are comprised of three parts. We each are spirit beings at the core; we each have a soul, and live in a physical body (1 Thessalonians 5:23).

    1. We cannot contact our spirits with our emotions or our physical bodies.

      1. “That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit” (John 3:6).

      2. There is no direct connection between our spirits and our flesh.

    2. Spiritual reality cannot be felt; it must be believed (Ephesians 1:18-20).

      1. The Word of God reveals spiritual reality (John 6:63).

      2. The only place we can go to find information about our spirits is the Word of God.

      3. Facts (in this natural world) can be detected by the physical senses.

      4. However, we cannot ascertain spiritual truth with the senses.

      5. The truth will change facts.

      6. The Word of God is an established reality, whether we believe it or not.

  2. Understanding our make-up unlocks the spirit realm so we can experience who we are and what we have in Christ.

    1. The mind is the battlefield. We win and lose in our minds.

      1. Therefore, we must make a decision to believe the Word of God despite what is going on in the natural world.

      2. In order for us to tap into the resources within our spirits, we have to be sure that we are renewing our minds with the Word.

    2. The Bible compares the Word of God to a mirror (James 1:23).

      1. When we look into an actual mirror, we see a reflection of our physical bodies.

      2. We trust that reflection so much that we begin straightening ourselves out (hair, clothes, face, etc.) based on what we see.

      3. Likewise, we should trust the Word of God in the same manner.

      4. When we look into the mirror of the Word, we will see things we need to change about ourselves on the inside.
