Summary:

Change starts with renewing our minds with the Word of God. To begin to see the success we are destined to have, we must eliminate excuses. We have

the power to change our lives.


  1. Change is not easy; but it is possible.
    1. To experience change, you must first change your mind, ideas and attitudes (Romans 12:1, 2).
      1. You must align your thinking with God's Word.
    2. Make small changes and begin to develop confidence in your ability to change.
    3. For Christians, change should be a lifestyle.
      1. Change begins on the inside; allow Jesus to change your heart.
      2. You have the power to change yourself.
    4. Submit to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and He will help you change.
    5. Realize you can't change other people. Focus on changing yourself.

  2. You have the power to change; however, you must stop making excuses.
    1. Jesus met a man who had an infirmity for 38 years. He asked the man, if he wanted to be healed (John 5:2-8).
      1. In this story, an angel would trouble the water, and when people stepped into it, they would be healed.
      2. The man made excuses for not getting in the water (verse 7). As a result, his condition remained the same.
    2. Excuses are nails used to build a house of failure.
      1. A lazy man will make excuses (Proverbs 26:13).
      2. In Luke 14:16-20, a man invited many guests to a banquet; but some made excuses as to why they could not show up.
      3. An excuse is an attempt to be released from an obligation or duty; it is an attempt to remove yourself from blame.
      4. Moses made excuses as to why he couldn't do what God told him to do (Exodus 3:10).
        1. He had feelings of inadequacy.
        2. He felt unqualified to do the job.
        3. He felt he had too many weaknesses.
        4. Low self-esteem
    3. Locate the area in which you have become comfortable making excuses and make a decision to change.
    4. Eliminate all excuses to go to the next level in your life.
    5. You are the only one hindering your progress.
      1. Do what you have to do for change to take place in your life; you have the power.
      2. The apostle Paul was the chief among sinners, but he changed (1 Timothy 1:15).

  3. There are seven excuses that will cause you to miss Heaven:
    1. "Everybody is doing it."
    2. "Times have changed."
    3. "I don't believe as you do."
    4. "It doesn't matter what you believe, as long as you are sincere."
    5. "I don't understand."
    6. "I'll put it off until later."
    7. "I'm just too bad."
