Summary:

Pride is the ultimate blessing blocker. When a person operates in pride, he refuses to submit to God. Instead, he trusts his own words, abilities, talents and ways more than God. Pride
will block the flow of God’s blessing and ultimately cause your
downfall. To be truly successful, trust God and replace your will with
His will for your life.


  1. Pride is an exaltation of self instead of God.
    1. Pride is a selfish act and blocks the blessing of God.
    2. God is hindered in the life of the proud person.
      1. God hates pride (Proverbs 8:13).
      2. God distances Himself from the proud person (Psalm 138:6).
      3. God resists the proud (James 4:6).
    3. The wicked will not seek God because of their pride (Psalm 10:4).
      1. Pharaoh did not acknowledge God with regards to freeing the children of Israel from
        Egypt (Exodus 5:2).
  2. Submit all your plans to God and do not esteem your thoughts and plans above His thoughts and plans.
    1. Don’t be wise in your own eyes. Fear the Lord and depart from evil (Proverbs 3:7).
    2. Plans that are contrary to God’s plans are evil (Mark 7:20-23).
      1. Prideful thinking opposes God’s Word.
      2. You shouldn’t think of yourself higher than you really are (Romans 12:3).
    3. Keep your thinking in line with the Word.
      1. Men should not exalt their own thoughts above what is written in the Word (1 Corinthians 4:6).
        1. Operating outside of the boundaries of what is written in the Word is perversion.
        2. Do not use liberty or freedom to operate outside of the boundaries of what God has written.
        3. The prideful person is really ignorant of the truth (1Timothy 6:3, 4, AMP).
        4. When you think you know it all, the Bible says that you actually know nothing
          (1 Corinthians 8:2).
  3. Pride may allow enjoyment and success for a season but ultimately results in your downfall.
    1. God will bring down the prideful person (Isaiah 25:11).
    2. Satan was cast down from Heaven because he wanted to do things his way instead of God’s way (Isaiah 14:12-15).
    3. Operating in pride has several consequences..
      1. Pride will result in shame (Proverbs 11:2).
      2. Pride will result in destruction and downfall (Proverbs 16:18).
      3. Pride will result in being brought low (Proverbs 29:23).
      4. Pride will deceive you (Obadiah 1:3).
    4. A person who exalts himself and his agenda will be abased, but the humble will be exalted (Luke 18:9).
  4. Exercise patience and trust God and His Word, and He will establish you.
    1. Trust God and His plans more than your own thoughts and plans.
    2. Success will be the objective when you do things God’s way.
    3. Resist pride and be patient with God’s plan and He will establish you (Psalm 40:1-4).
      1. With God’s plan, the end is better than the beginning (Ecclesiastes 7:8).
      2. Being patient is better than being proud.

  5. Get rid of pride by trusting God and His Word
    1. Humility is a way to get rid of pride (James 4:10)
    2. Live a directed, not a driven life.
    3. Be conformable, not comfortable.
