Summary:

If you’re going to change, you can’t be afraid of losing what you have. Evaluate your life. Anything you can’t let go of, even if God asks you

to, is keeping you from receiving more and better from Him



  1. Jesus asked a rich young ruler to sell what He had and follow Him (Matthew 19:21, AMP).
    1. The rich young ruler was sad when Jesus asked Him to give up his possessions.
      1. If what you have is from God, you don't need to be afraid of losing it.
      2. If it's from God and you do lose it, God will bring it back to you in a better form.
      3. If it's not from God, you don't need it anyway.
    2. Do you have the wrong mindset where your personal possessions are concerned?
      1. If God asked you to give up all that you have, would you consider it a loss or gain?
      2. The rich young ruler saw it as a loss, even though he was given the opportunity to be one of Jesus' disciples.

  2. The rich young ruler asked Jesus, "What must I do to inherit eternal life (that is, to partake of eternal salvation in the Messiah's kingdom)?"
    (Mark 10:17-30, AMP)
    1. The young man knew and observed the commandments, but he didn't love God with all his strength.
      1. Your "strength" includes your influence and money.
      2. You must give up your will to do the will of God for your life.
    2. Jesus said that it is hard for a rich person who trusts in their riches to follow God and do things His way.
    3. You have to ask yourself, "Who or what do I trust?"
      1. There should be nothing or no one you trust more than God.

  3. Whatever you give up for God He will restore - better and even more than you had before (Mark 8:35; Mark 10:28-30).
    1. The rich young ruler would have had a hundredfold return had he given up what he had.
      1. Sometimes you have to give up more than riches.
      2. You have to give your problems to God.
      3. You have to give your cares, even those concerning your children, over to God.
    2. You can't be afraid of losing what you have.
      1. Remember whatever you give up for God's sake, He will return a hundredfold.
